Locations and bids for asphalt overlay work

The Independence city commission meets Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Civic Center. The agenda includes various items on both the consent agenda and items for commission action.

Major portions of the consent agenda include awarding bids for demolition of nine previously condemned structures and the adoption of the 2018 city Pay Plan Resolution. The city updates their pay plan each year to keep pace with inflation. This year they are asking to increase the pay ranges by two percent. Within the budget impact notes of the resolution, it states that an employee's pay rate is determined through a merit evaluation system and the updated pay plan would only affect the starting wage rate for any new hires.

Within the items for commission action, the commissioners will be asked to consider purchase of Pro QA for Emergency Medical Dispatch. This Enterpol interface integrates the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch protocols with critical computer technologies.

Four more locations for asphalt overlay work will be brought up for consideration as well as bids to resurface the tennis courts. Young Professionals of Independence will make a request to renovate the N. Park Blvd. basketball court.

The 1916 City Hall project may get further along as they commissioners are going to consider an agreement from TreanorHL for the interior demolition work.

Montgomery County Action Council executive director Trisha Purdon will give an update on poultry in Kansas, followed by the city manager's report.

The Independence city commission meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the Veteran's Room of the Civic Center. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
