Although the Indy Goes Back to School celebration was canceled due to rainy weather, that doesn’t mean USD 446 students can put off the first day of school, which starts today.

Independence High School freshmen had orientation in the IHS Gym Tuesday morning with the Independence Middle School sixth graders holding orientation in the IMS Cafeteria from 10 to 11 a.m. Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students visited their classrooms at Riley Early Learning Center, Eisenhower Elementary and Jefferson Elementary in the late afternoon, and parent orientation was held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for 7th and 8th grade students of IMS.

Students were excited to learn their first day of school would have an early release time with the first full day of classes for all students tomorrow (Thursday).

Friday evening, the community is invited to the Riley Early Learning Center between 5 and 6:30 p.m. for their Open House. The center was recently renovated to encompass an Early Learning Center which was approved by the USD 446 Board of Education in September of 2017. The construction class at IHS, under the direction of Al Speicher, started working on the renovations in November of 2017 where they installed sheet rock, painted, and more. Students in the class learned trade skills which can take them through college or set them on the path for a career directly out of high school.
