Fiddler on the Roof comes to Independence High School for three days beginning Friday, Mar. 9 and Saturday, Mar. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 11 at 2:30 p.m. at the IHS Performing Arts Center. Tickets are: $8 for adults and $6 for students.

The IHS Drama and Music departments will tell the story of Tevye, a Jewish father with five daughters and his attempts to maintain his Jewish religion and cultural traditions while other influences infiltrate his family's lives.

Trenton Shamblin (playing the character Tevye) said, "It seems we have all sunk countless hours into this production and I have never been more excited about a show. It's been really good. Even from the beginning we noticed we were ahead of our game from last year's show. I am going to remember this experience."

The play is based on a book by Joseph Stein and music by Jerry Bock with the lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The IHS production included five choreographers: Renee Hines, Rene Stanley, Roger Bennin and Elizabeth Bennin and Erika Smith, who is also the producer, and Erin Shelton conducting the orchestra. "The kids have really taken this to heart and given everything they have to make this a spectacular production. I am sure the audience will enjoy the effort they have all given toward this show," said Smith.
