Per 4-H meat judging coach, Dick VanWinkle, 21 4-H'ers made a trip to Denver, Colo., recently and placed as state champions last year during the 4-H State Fair in Manhattan during the summer. From there, they were invited to participate on the national level, where four youths took home high ranking in various categories, Placing, Identification, Reasons, and Overall:

Senior Group #1
Alexa Maulsby — 31st in placing; 2nd in identification; 3rd in reasons, and 1st place overall
Zach Wood — 22nd in placing; 4th in identification; 25th in reasons; and 7th overall
Zach Steed — 14th in placing; 3rd in identification; 31st in reasons; and 4th in overall
Colben Dodson — 33rd in placing; 20th in identification; 15th in reasons; and 18th in overall
Senior Group #2
Rhett Newby — 6th in placing; 11th in identification; 40th in reasons; and 10th overall
Abby Ewing — 44th in placing; 14th in identification; 47th in reasons; and 20th overall
Jordan Cushenberry — 64th in placing; 13th in identification; 25th in reasons; and 27th overall
Jake Keene — 53rd in placing; 21st in identification; 43rd in reasons; and 30th overall

Intermediate Group #1
Cord Dodson — 16th in placing; 1st in identification; 38th in reason; and 2nd overall
Luke Faulkenstien — 1st in placing; 5th in identification; 1st in reason; and 4th overall
Dexter Small — 5th in placing; 4th in identification; 3rd in reason; and 5th overall
Hannah Graybill — 13th in placing; 8th in identification; 2nd in reason; and 7th overall
Senior contests were 67 and those that participated on the intermediate level had 38.
The overall results were:
Senior #1 team claimed 5th in placing; 1st in identification; 2nd in reason, and 1st overall
Senior #2 team claimed 10th in placing; 4th in identification; 10th in reason; and 4th overall
Intermediate #1 team won 1st in placing; 2nd in identification; 1st in reason; and 1st overall.
There were 15 members on the senior team, and nine members participating on the intermediate.
The results from participating in the Western National Roundup meat judging competition in Denver, Colo. has been released by category:

Maulsby — 7th place
Wood — 8th place

Steed — 38th place
The team, overall, ranked 3rd place in the national competition against more than 150 other 4-H'ers.

The team placed 4th overall.
