Hitting the hardcourt for the first time since the winter break,

the Field Kindley High School Golden Tornado welcomed Chanute

to town on Tuesday, January 7. Both teams fell to 1-5

following double-digit losses to the Blue Comets, as the Lady

‘Nado lost 63-50 and the boys were beaten 69-49. It is the fifth

straight loss for the boys, while the girls were coming off their

first win of the season over Parsons in the final contest before

the holidays.

First up, the FKHS girls faced off with the Lady Blue Comets

— the KBCA No. 9 team in Class 4A. The visitors jumped out

to an early 12-5 advantage at the end of the first. Chanute had

a big second quarter, stretching their lead to 35-15 at halftime,

then followed that up with another high-scoring period in the

third to head into the final eight minutes up 57-31. Coffeyville

attempted a late comeback, outscoring their guests 19-6 in the

fourth, but it proved to be too little, too late as Chanute hung on

for the 63-50 final.

Leading the charge for FKHS was junior forward Adyson Peck

with 17 points, while senior Shonase Collins and sophomore

Kylie Speer added 12 and 10, respectively.

In the boys’ matchup, Field Kindley remained within striking

distance for about three full quarters, but the Comets outscored

them 26-15 in the fourth to run away with the 20-point victory.

The ‘Nado were down 12-9 after one quarter of action, then went

into the locker room trailing 24-19. Chanute extended their lead

to 43-34 at the end of three before the offensive outburst in the

fourth to seal the win.

Coffeyville junior guard Tariq Logan and sophomore big man

Caden Herring each scored 13 in the losing effort.

The two teams traveled to Ft. Scott on Friday, January 10. For

a recap of those games, check back next week.
