The Independence High

School Lady Bulldogs

had an up and down year

in 2019-2020, fi nishing

the regular season on a

high note with a big road

win over Southeast Kansas

League foe Pittsburg

before falling at Paola in

round one of Sub-State to

close out the campaign.

A pair of Lady ‘Dogs

picked up postseason

awards recently, as senior

point guard Jenna

Eytcheson was a unanimous

selection to the All-

SEK First Team and freshman

forward Abby Veile

garnered an Honorable

Mention nod.

IHS fi nished the season

11-10 overall and 7-5 in

league play, and a large

part of that was due to

the inside-out combo of

Eytcheson and Veile. Jenna

was the team’s leading

scorer throughout the

year, while Abby did a great

job of picking up the slack

when opposing defenses

keyed on Eytcheson to

limit her perimeter scoring

and driving capabilities.

Losing Eytcheson will

be a big blow to the Lady

Bulldogs next season, but

Head Coach James Cole

has a nice building block

in Veile, plus players with

starting experience like

Rylee Rutherford, Kayley

Thorpe, Rhylie Powell and

Richelle Reichenberger

for year two with the program.
