The Coffeyville men could soon find themselves

climbing back into the NJCAA top-25

after thoroughly handling a team that has

been receiving votes but remained just outside

the rankings for the past month. The

Red Ravens defeated Colby, a team coming

off a 109-107 home upset of No. 20 ranked

Cowley last Saturday, with a final score of 73-

56 at Nellis Hall in Coffeyville on Wednesday,

January 8.

The hosts got off to a hot start as freshman

big man Larry White scored three straight

baskets for an early 6-0 lead and forced a

Colby timeout with just over a minute off the

clock. The Trojans closed the gap to as little

as four, but CCC headed into halftime with a

36-26 advantage. They remained in control in

the second stanza and broke away late to seal

the 17-point margin.

Ravens sophomore guard Tony Hutson led

all scorers with 24 points, going 4-9 from beyond

the arc and 4-4 at the free throw line.

Joining Hutson in double figures were freshman

point guard Tylor Perry with 15 and a

game-high six assists and White, who finished

with 13 and a team-high six rebounds.

The Coffeyville crowd held their collective

breath midway through the first half when

sophomore big man Manny Crump got tangled

up under the basket going for the rebound

and went to the floor with an apparent

knee injury. He was helped off the court after

registering zero points and two boards in just

over three minutes of action.

CCC (12-5, 4-3) will look to build on a

three-game winning streak — all of which

have come against Kansas Jayhawk opponents

— as they travel to Dodge City for another

KJCCC matchup this afternoon.
