It was an historic moment for Independence Chamber of Commerce Tuesday morning as their first Airbnb held a ribbon cutting to signify their official opening. Right Move Properties is the first Airbnb business to open in town and people are excited as told by the number of those attending the ribbon cutting.

Lisa Wilson, Chamber president, kicked the morning off by thanking property owners, George and Julie Eisele for their continued investment in Independence. "This is the third Chamber membership they have. Midwest Real Estate, Midwest Auctions and now Right Move," Wilson said. "I think, as we were all taking the home tour, it's going to be a hit in the community." Wilson told of a Textron summer intern who will be staying at the Airbnb. "She didn't want to stay in a hotel, she didn't have any furniture or anything like that, so I was crossing my fingers this house would be done and would be an option for her," Wilson explained. "I don't know if she is bringing friends, if there are other interns, but she is going to be here." Julie added the intern is going solo so far.

The home offers a good situation for interns, business travel, funerals, weddings, family reunions, school reunions or just a family wishing to visit Independence and all it has to offer. "It will be an option we can share with people who come to town that hasn't otherwise been available," Wilson noted. "We are excited to get the word out and tell everybody about the new Airbnb in Independence."

Julie told attendees the big thing right now is that Right Move Properties is now open for reservations. "You can find it on Airbnb. We have named the house Grandma's Modern Hometown Getaway because we felt like this was grandma's house, like you were visiting grandma," Julie said. "And of course, hometown getaway, we love Independence, it's our hometown."

George added, "It's got everything in it that we could think of that anybody would want. We have got coffee and snacks and water. We have got a computer office with a printer, ink, paper, office supplies, staples." He said they have rocking chairs for those with babies, a children's play room. "They can do their thing while the parents are doing whatever they are doing," George said. "We have plans to get a pack and play and a patio set for the back," Julie said.

George said they worked to make it comfortable and affordable. "A place for people to come and enjoy themselves and not have to worry about too much. We've got everything," he said with a laugh.

Julie said they put together a book which offers information on Independence and its offerings. "These are our recommendations for our guests," she said. It includes local restaurants, shopping, in the scoop of what local residents like to do. "That is all in the book for our guests to learn about Independence and hopefully come back and want to experience more," she concluded.

The property, located at 305 S. 10th St., offers three full bedrooms with one space working as both an office and sleeping space which adds up to the ability to sleep seven, 1 1/2 bathrooms, two sofas, a recliner, a sun room stocked with children's toys, free wifi, smart televisions in just about every room, a patio and more. Every room is fully furnished, including the kitchen which comes stocked with dishes, utensils, pots and pans, spices and everything else you would need to cook and serve a complete meal. The bathroom is stocked with plush towels and wash rags and each bedroom offers extra blankets, pillows and a fan for those who can't sleep without one.

Pets are not allowed nor is smoking in the house. "No craziness, it's that simple," chuckled George.

Pricing is set at this moment as a minimum of $125 a night but that price rises during peak times. "We are shooting for $125 to $150 on average on a regular basis," George said. Julie added they are already booked for Neewollah week. Guests may rent the Airbnb for one night or a month, discounts apply the longer they stay.
