The Outstanding Garden Award for July has been awarded to Sue and Shane Johnson, 1959 Brookside Dr., by the Independence Garden Club.

You'll find most of the flower beds in their huge back yard with a gigantic tree which gives a lot of shade for sitting and enjoying the gardens. There are several flower beds which have all been named and are full of perennials, annuals and a variety of Kansas native wildflowers mixed in that Sue and Shane planted.

They have an Arbor that Shane built which they have planted purple and green grapes to climb. Sue just started a Beatrix Potter Garden for her grandchildren who are helping with planting flowers. Sue sewed the coat that you'll find in the garden along with an antique mower and of course a rabbit.

There is a Succulent Garden and two Toad Habitats. The brick area for the fire pit was laid with old brick by Shane and the stones for the walkway around the house were done by both of them.

What an amazing yard and so deserving of this award. Congratulations Sue and Shane Johnson!
