  • Astra Arts Festival overview announced

    Next month from July 6-8 the Astra Arts Festival will take over the streets of Independence. The Astra Arts Festival is held every two years and embraces music, literature, theatre and the visual arts for all ages.

  • American Pickers come to Kansas

    Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz and their team are excited to come to Kansas. They plan to film episodes of the hit series American Pickers throughout the region this Spring. 

  • Community welcomes Independence Family Medicine
    The doors opened wide for the official ribbon cutting ceremony for Independence Family Medicine, operated by Wilson Medical Center, at 1415 N. Penn on Tuesday evening.
  • Man killed in Coffeyville house fire

    Tragically in the early hours of Wednesday, the Coffeyville Fire Department, along with officers from the Coffeyville Police Department, EMS First Responders and support from the South Coffeyville Fire Department, arrived on scene to a reported house fire at 303 W. 3rd Street.

    The feel of family was a welcoming atmosphere when the Independence Homecoming's 12th triennial event kicked off at the Civic Center this afternoon with returning families and friends joining residents to register and socialize.

    The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1186 and its Auxiliary will be hosting an Easter Carnival planned for Saturday, March 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Party planned for City Hall Centennial
    The community is invited to a special drop-in reception in observance of the 100th anniversary of Independence City Hall on Tuesday, March 1. Cake and punch will be served from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the city hall lobby, and building tours will be offered by city staff.
  • Volunteers make Booth Hotel glitzy for gala
    New Year's Eve preparations got under way on Wednesday to usher in 2016 at Independence's historic Booth Hotel, 201 West Main Street. This historic hotel will play host to the 3rd annual New Year's Eve Gala on Thursday evening while helping to  support the Independence Area Community Chest.

    “Carols and Canapes,” the twenty-fifth annual concert of Christmas music to help fund scholarships for qualified college music majors, will once again be a seasonal offering for local music lovers when members of Monday Music Club and The Musiclub Singers combine their talents for a holiday spirit-filled afternoon, which will begin with a Buffet prepared and served by Michele Simmons and staff at Down Home Restaurant, with the concert to follow. This event is scheduled for 1p.m. Sunday, December 13 in the Independence Historical and Art Museum, 123 North 8th Street.
