It is time for leaf pickup in Independence. Starting next week, city staff will go through the 12 designated areas to conclude the pickup by the end of December. You do not need to call for pickup, just have your leaves ready during the days they will be in your area. Leaves will not be picked up with the vacuum leaf machine before Nov. 6 or after Dec. 28 unless weather has delayed the regular pickup. If you need leaves picked up before Nov. 6 or after Dec. 28, they must be bagged and put out for the Sanitation Department to pick up. If there are more than 10 bags there will be a minimum charge of $25, but up to 10 bags will be picked up at no charge. It is important that only leaves are piled to be picked up. Do not put brush, weeds, rock, brick, et cetera in with the leaves as the device used to pick them up is a vacuum and any non-leaf material will plug up or damage the machine. If workers notice these other materials in your leaf pile, it will be passed over. Put your leaves by the street or by the curb, but not in the street or in an alley. The leaf pickup schedule is as follows:

• Area One: Nov. 6 - 8

• Area Two: Nov. 9, 10 and 13

• Area Three: Nov. 14 - 16

• Area Four: Nov. 17, 20 - 21

• Area Five: Nov. 22, 27 - 28
