Independence began flushing city fire hydrants today, September 7, 2018, and will continue for the next six weeks. Hydrant-flushing is very important for the maintenance of the water distribution system. As a result of a hydrant being flushed, air builds up in the water lines and citizens may experience cloudy or discolored water, which by running the tap for a few minutes should clear everything up. A flushing fire hydrant may cause some low water pressure that will not last more than 20 minutes. However, if problems persist please call City Hall at 620-332-2500.
