Roy Clark, country music legend, is coming back to Independence where it all began. The William Inge Theater on the campus of the Independence Community College Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. is the place Clark desired to celebrate his 85th birthday with "A Conversation with Roy" show.

Though his birthday is actually on April 15, he decided there was no better place to celebrate it than Independence where it all began. Clark is excited to return to Independence where he still has many friends. Some of those friends include: Rodney Lay, originally from Coffeyville and Vernon Sandusky, from Cherryvale.

The show will be an evening the audience will get to hear the up close and personal memories from Clark's Hee Haw, the Beverly Hillbillies, the Grand Ole Opry, The Tonight Show and his meeting with Elvis. He will share stories about other music legends he has met during his illustrious career.

The audience will get the rare chance to look back at Clark's life and a chance to ask him questions.

November 1959, a young man was a guitar player  for country music star Wanda Jackson, who was performing in Independence at Memorial Hall when he was discovered by another local entrepreneur, Jim Halsey. "The minute I saw him and heard him play guitar I knew he was destined to be a star," said Halsey.

Though Clark will not be performing he will be accompanied by Kyle Dillingham and the Horseshoe Road band who will preform during the show. The band recently returned from a tour in China and have appeared on "Good Morning America." The band is under the management of Impresario Jim Halsey, Tulsa.
